SINGAPORE – A man is accused of forging multiple university documents, which he allegedly intended to send to Yayasan Mendaki to try to dupe the self-help group into disbursing a $15,000 study loan.
On July 17, Muhammad Hakim Jaffar Abdul Aziz, 33, was charged with one count of committing forgery for the purpose of cheating.
He was in Berlin, Germany, when he allegedly forged five documents between Dec 29, 2022, and March 14, 2023.
They included a purported enrolment letter and a so-called “official transcript” from Florida International University.
Hakim allegedly wanted to use the documents to deceive Yayasan Mendaki into believing he was still enrolled at the university, so that he could obtain the study loan.
His case will be mentioned again in court on Aug 14.
For committing forgery for the purpose of cheating, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
