Man accused of threatening to plant bomb at DBS headquarters also charged with harassment

SINGAPORE – A man who allegedly made multiple calls to DBS Bank, threatening to plant a bomb at its headquarters on May 27, is now accused of abusing its employees with vulgar language
Appearing in court on Aug 21, Ang Cheng Shin, 34, currently faces one count each of harassment and giving false information about a harmful situation.
Ang, who was handed his first charge in May, is expected to admit to his offences in October.
In an earlier statement, police said that he was found to have no means to carry out his threats based on preliminary investigations.
There were no suspicious items found at DBS Asia Hub in Changi Business Park Crescent and DBS Asia Central in Marina Boulevard.
Ang was in Eunos Crescent on May 27, 2024, when he allegedly made nine phone calls to the bank between 1.30pm and 3.45pm, threatening to plant a bomb at its headquarters.
Within that time, he also allegedly verbally abused nine of its staff members.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division managed to establish Ang’s identity and arrested him.
Offenders convicted of giving false information about a harmful situation can be jailed for up to seven years and fined up to $50,000.
Those convicted of harassment can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $5,000.
