SINGAPORE – An Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer allegedly misappropriated 22 gift cards worth $440 in total.
Ling Yong Sheng, 36, has been charged with criminal breach of trust.
He is accused of using the cards for his own purpose, allegedly committing the offence between June and August 2023 at ICA’s Sea Domain Headquarters in Brani Way.
On July 26, ICA told The Straits Times that it immediately conducted internal investigations following feedback that some of the gift cards could have been misappropriated.
It lodged a police report when the suspect was identified.
The authority’s spokesperson said: “Officers are expected to maintain a high standard of integrity and professionalism. The ICA will not hesitate to take errant ICA officers who fall short of these standards to task.”
Ling is expected to plead guilty on Sept 6.
If convicted of criminal breach of trust, an offender can be jailed for up to 15 years and fined.
