Man jailed for hurling stone at cabby

A technician was jailed two weeks yesterday for throwing a stone into the interior of a taxi in a road rage case.

Tanaraj Vellakannoo, 34, had pleaded guilty to committing the negligent act and endangering the personal safety of others along the Paya Lebar exit of the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) at about 6pm on Feb 4.

He had honked at the cabby for allegedly driving too close to his car. They later stopped their vehicles at a traffic junction and got into a dispute.

In a fit of anger, Tanaraj picked up a stone measuring 5cm by 5cm and threw it into the taxi. The stone hit the cabby's arm and scratched the chin of a passenger.

Tanaraj could have been jailed for up to six months and/or fined up to $2,500.
