SINGAPORE - The friends and relatives of a childless widow with dementia faced off in a court fight, with each side vying to be appointed as deputies to make decisions on her behalf.

The two friends accused the relatives of ignoring the 71-year-old's welfare for years and said they were now coming out of the woodwork only because they were interested in her assets.
