SINGAPORE – The managing director of a company that sells motor vehicles was charged with one count of criminal breach of trust on April 3 after he allegedly misappropriated $52,300.

Ken Lee Thiam Hock, 46, from a firm called Car Search, is accused of committing the offence in late July 2024.

A search with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority revealed that the Singaporean is also a director and shareholder at another similar firm called Cars Select.

In a statement, the police said that between October 2024 and April 2025, officers received reports about a car company that allegedly failed to fulfil sale agreements involving more than $1 million.

The police did not disclose the name of the firm. Officers from Bedok Police Division arrested Lee soon after.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the alleged victims had engaged the company to either purchase or sell their cars between June 2024 and January 2025.

A police spokesperson added: “The man allegedly deceived several victims where he facilitated the sale agreements of vehicles but... misappropriated the funds by not following through with the transfer of the car ownerships.

“He purportedly failed to fulfil sale agreements which resulted in victims not receiving sale proceeds.”

On April 3, Lee was ordered to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for a medical examination. His case will be mentioned again in court on April 17.

If convicted of criminal breach of trust, an offender can be jailed for up to 20 years and fined.
