Man arrested for setting fire at void deck in Bedok North

SINGAPORE - A 58-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire, said the police on Thursday (Feb 1).

Police said they were alerted to a case of fire at the void deck of Block 512, Bedok North Avenue 2, at 8.40pm on Tuesday.

According to photos sent to Stomp, the fire involved discarded items.

The fire was extinguished using a compressed air foam backpack and an extinguisher, a Singapore Civil Defence Force spokeman told Stomp.

With the aid of images from police cameras and ground inquiries, the suspect was arrested within 24 hours after the incident was reported to the police.

The man will be charged in court with an offence of mischief by fire with the intent to cause damage under Section 435 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, he faces up to seven years' jail and a fine.
