44-year-old man charged with outrage of modesty on train

SINGAPORE - A 44-year old man was charged in court on Friday (July 7) with outrage of modesty.

Sim Teck Chye is accused of committing the offence on board an MRT train from Tuas Link station to Pasir Ris station on Sunday.

He allegedly used his hand to stroke the left thigh of an unknown woman.

The police had said in a release that information on a train molester was posted on social media on Sunday.

Officers from Jurong Police Division and the Public Transport Security Command later managed to establish his identity.

Ang Mo Kio Police Division officers arrested Sim at Hougang Mall at 4.45pm on Wednesday.

Sim, who was unrepresented, will be remanded for psychiatric observation at the Institute of Mental Health. He will be back in court on July 21.

If convicted of outrage of modesty, he can be jailed up for to two years and fined or caned.
