20 motorists hauled to court to face drink-driving charges

SINGAPORE – Twenty motorists were hauled to court on Feb 26 and charged with drink driving, with several of them convicted on the same day.
The motorists were arrested between July 2025 and February 2026 after failing breathalyser tests administered during police enforcement checks.
Seven of these motorists were handed additional charges of driving without due care and attention, leaving a vehicle in a position causing undue inconvenience to others, speeding and repeat drink-driving offences, said the police on Feb 25.
On July 10, 2025, Adam Hashim, 42, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when his vehicle hit a kerb in Upper Bukit Timah Road.
Adam, a repeat drink-driving offender, had 45 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol in every 100ml of breath, above the prescribed limit of 35mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
He is expected to return to court on March 31.
On July 30, 2025, Lawrence Ong Han Ming, 48, was accused of losing control of his vehicle while driving along Tampines Avenue 5, hitting a traffic light pole and road kerb.
According to charge sheets, Ong had 56mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. His case will be heard again on April 7.
On Sept 19, 2025, David Gabriel Leong Tze Keong, 52, was stopped during checks on the ECP and found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He had at least 48mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
The police said Leong was disqualified from driving in 2010 for one year for a previous drink-driving offence.
He was convicted on Feb 26, 2026, over his current drink-driving offence and sentenced to 18 days’ jail and fined $6,000.
On Oct 1, 2025, Tham Ming Wei, 26, allegedly had 53mcg alcohol per 100ml of breath when he lost control of his vehicle in Seletar West Link and crashed into railings and a wall. His case will be heard again on April 20.

On Nov 9, 2025, Derrick Chia Si Kai, 29, was caught speeding at 112kmh on the PIE while under the influence of alcohol. He had 42mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
He was convicted of drink driving and speeding on Feb 26 and handed a $3,000 fine. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
On Nov 9, 2025, Derrick Chia Si Kai was caught speeding at 112kmh on the PIE while under the influence of alcohol.

On Feb 6, 2026, Ho Wee Fatt, 44, rode a motorcycle along the PIE at speeds of up to 112kmh. He had 48mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
He was given a $2,800 fine after being convicted on Feb 26 of drink driving and speeding. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
On Jan 25, Jerry Qiu Zhengli, 41, stopped his car in Lorong 33 Geylang. Police investigations revealed that he had driven his car after allegedly consuming alcohol and had later fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Qiu was accused of having 78mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath while driving. His case was adjourned to April 16.
Those who drive under the influence of alcohol can be fined between $2,000 and $10,000 or jailed for up to a year, or both.
A repeated offender faces a fine of between $5,000 and $20,000 and a mandatory jail term of up to two years. Offenders may also be disqualified from driving.
