10 men arrested for unlawful entry via waters near Tuas

Ten men were arrested on Saturday for unlawful entry into Singapore, after they were detected by the Police Coast Guard in waters near the shores of Tuas.

The police said in a statement on Sunday night that the men were aged between 20 and 44.

At about 7.30pm on Saturday, officers from the Police Coast Guard detected a fast-moving craft, with the men on board heading towards Singapore.

The craft came near the shores of Tuas reclaimed land before it attempted to exit Singapore territorial waters, the statement said.

Thereafter, both land and sea resources, including an unmanned aerial vessel, were deployed to conduct a search in the vicinity of the reclaimed land in Tuas.

The 10 men were intercepted and subsequently arrested with the help of the Jurong Police Division, Gurkha Contingent and the Special Operations Command, the statement added.

If convicted of illegal entry, they each face a jail term of up to six months and at least three strokes of the cane.
