SINGAPORE - Nets services that were affected by a disruption on Sept 23 are “progressively recovering” after the payment service provider released a software update.

In response to queries from The Straits Times on Sept 24, a Nets spokesman said an “over-the-air software update” was released on the night of Sept 23 to restore full functionalities of affected terminals, following the “partial unavailability” of some terminals.

“We observe that services for affected terminals are progressively recovering,” he said.

“Our customer service team has also reached out to affected merchants to extend our support for the software update.”

Regarding the number of terminals affected, Nets would say only that it amounted to about 5 per cent of its terminal network.

The issue first surfaced at around 10.12am on Sept 23, when the company posted on Facebook that

Nets-related services such as debit and credit card transactions were not available temporarily

.

In a later update, Nets said that affected terminals were also not able to perform QR, contactless, and PIN (personal identification number) transactions temporarily. Customers were advised to pay by SGQR or cash.

SGQR (Singapore Quick Response Code) combines multiple payment QR codes into a single label for more efficient transactions.
