SINGAPORE – Prime Minister Lawrence Wong attended the launch of this year’s Bulan Bahasa, or Malay Language Month, which was broadcast on Suria on Aug 29.

“The Malay language holds a special place in Singapore – as our national language, and as a bridge to our shared history and culture,” he said in a Facebook post. “For me, learning Malay has been a meaningful journey, and I am grateful for the encouragement and support I’ve received along the way.”

PM Wong said the Government will continue to support efforts to promote the Malay language and culture, and to ensure that all the mother tongue languages continue to flourish and thrive.

He said this is the Singapore way, adding: “We build a nation for all – where everyone is equal and respected.”

Joining him and members of the community at the launch were Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim and Malay Language Council chairman Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim.
