SINGAPORE - Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen presented the Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), First Admiral (First Adm) Norazmi Pengiran Haji Muhammad with Singapore's Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera), or Meritorious Service Medal (Military), at an investiture ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) on Tuesday morning (Oct 10).

First Adm Norazmi was conferred the award in recognition of his significant contributions towards enhancing the bilateral defence relationship between the RBN and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).

"This signifies the strong relationship between our militaries as well as our countries," First Adm Norazmi said, on receiving the award.

"I am very much delighted to receive this prestigious award, and would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Government of Singapore for awarding me with the Meritorious Service Medal (Military)."

Last year, both navies commemorated 40 years of defence relations and celebrated the 35th edition of Exercise Pelican. The military exercise has grown in scope and complexity, with enhanced naval warfare drills and the inclusion of naval aviation.

First Adm Norazmi also supported Singapore's first International Maritime Review this year and the Western Pacific Naval Symposium Multilateral Sea Exercise in both 2015 and 2017.

First Adm Norazmi is in Singapore from Oct 9 to Oct 11.

On Tuesday, he called on Dr Ng, the Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant-General Perry Lim, and the Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral Lew Chuen Hong.

He will visit the RSS Unity ship at Tuas Naval Base on Wednesday.
