Cocobella coconut yogurt with undeclared milk allergen being recalled

SINGAPORE – Consumers are advised to avoid eating a range of Cocobella coconut yogurt products imported from Australia, which have been found to contain an undeclared milk allergen.

The food item – imported into Singapore by Made Brands – is being recalled after a notification from Food Standards Australia New Zealand, said the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) in a statement on Aug 23.

“Allergens in food could result in allergic reactions in individuals who are sensitive to (them),” SFA added.

Those who are milk-intolerant or allergic to milk should avoid consuming the affected products, while those who have eaten them and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice.

Milk does not pose a food safety risk to the general population, SFA said, but it can trigger allergic reactions in those who are milk-intolerant or allergic to it.

The recall affects 150g and 500g tubs and packs of Cocobella Coconut Yoghurt with use-by dates ranging from Aug 22 to Oct 5.

Singapore rules require that ingredients known to cause hypersensitivity must be clearly declared on food packaging labels, to safeguard consumers with food allergies.

Consumers can contact the retail outlet where they bought the product if they have further inquiries.
