SINGAPORE – Despite cloudy skies, the Beaver Moon shone prominently over Singapore on the night of Nov 5, the second of three consecutive supermoons in 2025.
The Beaver Moon reached peak brightness at about 7.30pm, appearing larger and more luminous than usual. Several readers sent The Straits Times photographs captured from various parts of the island, showing the moon glowing like a round white lantern above the skyline.
Netizens also shared images on social media.
On Facebook, user Skye Fun posted on Nov 6 that she had spotted the supermoon setting at around 5.55am.
“I gave chase after seeing it lowered further down when having the morning walk with my father,” she wrote. She added that a passer-by had laughed after learning that the pair had been eagerly trying to locate the moon.
Facebook user Jocelyn Ter uploaded photos taken with her mobile phone, showing part of a tree in the foreground silhouetted against the bright moon.
Another user, Ms Adeline Sa, shared images of the moon glowing through a layer of clouds, its brightness still clearly visible.
Straits Times reader A. Kannan, 60, a public servant, said the moon was initially obscured.
“The moon during the initial rise from the east was not clearly visible due to thick clouds,” Mr Kannan said.
“However, it became visible at about 7.30pm in Woodlands and remained bright throughout the night, with occasional formations of a lunar corona.”
A lunar corona is an optical phenomenon that appears as a set of one or more concentric, pastel-colored rings centred tightly around the Moon.
He added that the moon set in the north-west at around 6.45am on Nov 6. “It was bright yellow but did not appear particularly large, as it had risen high in the sky by then,” he said.

The Observatory at Science Centre Singapore previously told The Straits Times that the Moon would be at its closest to Earth in 2025 on Nov 6. By that time, it will be a waning gibbous, which is a phase that occurs after the full moon.

The next and final one, the Cold Moon, will appear on Dec 4.
