Close shave at coffee shop

The ceiling of this coffee shop in Block 148, Silat Avenue, gave way suddenly on Sunday afternoon, narrowly missing customers. The incident, which took place at around 12.30pm, left debris scattered over the floor and tables, as well as exposed cables. No one was injured, but things could have been worse had a noodle stall there been open, said the coffee shop's owner, who told Chinese evening paper Lianhe Wanbao that the queue for the stall usually stretched across that spot. A regular customer said the place had not been renovated for years and thought the collapse could have been due to wear and tear. Yesterday, it was business as usual at the coffee shop, amid repair works to the ceiling.
