Child abuse cases hit 8-year high, with spike in sexual abuse

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has investigated an increasing number of child abuse cases between 2015 and 2017, with the most significant increase involving sexual abuse.

SINGAPORE - In February 2018, a man was sentenced to 34 years' jail and the maximum 24 strokes of the cane for sexually abusing his lover's daughter.
The abuse started in 2010, when the girl was about seven years old, and continued almost daily for the next seven years.
