Chee Hong Tat to be deputy chairman of MAS

SINGAPORE – Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat will be appointed deputy chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) from Aug 23.

The central bank said in a statement on July 29 that Mr Chee, who is also Second Minister for Finance, will serve in the role until May 31, 2027.

He was

appointed to the MAS board of directors

for a three-year term from June 1.

Mr Chee succeeds Deputy Prime Minister and Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong, who was deputy chairman of MAS from July 2023 to May 2024.

Mr Gan was named MAS chairman after his predecessor, Mr Lawrence Wong, was sworn in as prime minister on May 15.

The MAS board’s 11 members are:

  • Mr Gan

  • Mr Chee

  • Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat

  • Minister of State for Trade and Industry and for Culture, Community and Youth Alvin Tan

  • Former head of civil service Peter Ong

  • NetLink NBN Management chairman Chaly Mah
