SINGAPORE – Visitors to River Wonders at Mandai Wildlife Reserve can look forward to festivities celebrating the 100-day milestone of its new capybara pup, Ollie, from April 3 to May 3.
The month-long celebrations – titled It’s a Capy Celebration – span a curated trail, enrichment activities, keeper talks and themed photo points where visitors can learn more about the world’s largest rodent, Mandai Wildlife Group said on April 2.
The male capybara pup, born to parents Muniek and Luna, was one of two capybaras born on Jan 4. The other, a female, did not survive “the critical early weeks” and died about three weeks later, Mandai said in a statement earlier in March.
The two pups were the first capybaras to be born at Mandai in 10 years.
As part of the celebrations, the capybara family will be treated to specially crafted items such as an ice cake and woven fire hose reels filled with treats.
This will take place during scheduled enrichment sessions at the Amazonia Encounters attraction, where animals move freely around visitors, while keepers share insights into the animals’ unique behaviours and how they are cared for.
Visitors can pick up a Capy Trail Fan Card at the Capy Crew Trail, where they will discover facts about the South American rodent species at each checkpoint.

Mandai is also holding a social media contest, where participants are called to post a photo or video of any of the capybaras in a cute or quirky moment. Six winners will score an admission ticket to River Wonders, an exclusive Capybara Zookeeper for a Day experience and an up-close interactive experience with the creatures.
Ollie the pup takes the total capybara population at River Wonders to 12. Visitors can keep an eye out for the cute mammals at the Once Upon a River animal show and on the Amazon River Quest boat ride.
Tickets for the boat ride are priced at $5 per passenger.
The various capybaras can be found at different locations at River Wonders.
