Last month, it was announced that Golden Mile Complex was put up for collective sale. This follows similar announcements earlier in the year, prompting the Singapore Heritage Society to pen a position paper on preserving old (but not that old) buildings in the name of heritage.
The tension between heritage and redevelopment is not new, and having no particular attachment to these places, I read the news with little more than a passing interest.
