South East District Mayor Mohamad Maliki Osman leading the launch of the FairPrice Walk for Rice. Yesterday, recipients of the programme from the Bedok Radiance Senior Activity Centre became the first beneficiaries to earn rice for other underprivileged families by taking part in the launch of the walk. Some 850 participants from 17 community and corporate partners joined them at the Sports Hub event, which included a mass warm-up and a 1.4km walk. Organised by the South East CDC and FairPrice, the walk, now in its eighth year, will run until Nov 20 and is expected to benefit 7,000 underprivileged families. For every 200m walked at various community events, FairPrice Foundation will donate one bowl of white as well as brown rice to needy families in the South East district.
