SINGAPORE – A pioneering birdwatching and wildlife enthusiast died on Feb 17 after a battle with leukaemia.
Mr Jeremiah Loei, who was best known for starting a popular Facebook group called Birds, Insects N Creatures of Asia (Bica) in 2012, was 60 years old.
The private group, which has more than 25,000 members, is used by many nature enthusiasts to share photos of wildlife sightings across Asia.
Members of the group penned their tributes to Mr Loei on the Bica page after word of his death became public. They detailed how his passion for wildlife had an impact on them.
On Feb 8, Mr Loei gave an update on his treatment in a post on his personal Facebook page, which is public, and said he was rushed to the accident and emergency department of Singapore General Hospital on Feb 4 with a high fever of 42.5 deg C.
He was hospitalised on the morning of Feb 5 and had been continuing with treatment.
