SINGAPORE - A 60-year-old man has been arrested for suspected involvement in an armed robbery case in Punggol Central.

The victim, a 56-year-old woman, had reported that an unknown man, armed with a knife, had entered a lift with her at about 3.30pm on Tuesday (Oct 24).

He robbed her of her pouch worth $14.90, which contained a set of keys and a packet of tissue paper.

He then made off in an unknown direction.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division immediately conducted extensive ground enquiries and investigations.

The suspect was subsequently arrested along Edgefield Walk at 6.45pm that day, and the pouch and keys were seized.

Preliminary investigations showed that he could also be the suspect in a case of attempted armed robbery reported along Edgefield Plains at about 12.20pm, also on Tuesday.

He will be charged in court on Thursday for the offence of armed robbery under section 394 read with section 397 of the Penal Code, chapter 224.

If found guilty, he could be jailed from five to 20 years and caned at least 12 strokes.
