The new army chief has made a career of focusing on people.

As commander of the 6th Division, an operationally ready front-line formation of both professional and conscripted units, Brigadier-General Goh Si Hou, 40, oversaw the development of the Combined Arms Training Centre, said the Ministry of Defence.

The centre conducts training for combined arms brigades under the SAF.

In earlier appointments, BG Goh led the implementation of new career schemes that enhanced recruitment and retention in the SAF.

He also headed an office that supported the Committee to Strengthen National Service.

In an initiative in 2014, more than 200 women, new citizens and permanent residents signed up to be part of the SAF Volunteer Corps after a week of recruitment.

BG Goh joined the SAF in 1997. He held the SAF Overseas Scholarship and the President's Scholarship.
