SINGAPORE – An elderly pedestrian was taken to hospital after an accident involving a bus in Punggol on the afternoon of March 19.

The incident occurred at around 4pm at the junction of Sumang Walk and Sumang Link, said the police in response to queries by The Straits Times, adding that a 53-year-old bus driver is assisting with investigations.

An 82-year-old male pedestrian was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said.

In a video of the incident posted on the Singapore Roads Accident Facebook page, a stationary green bus – service 382G operated by Go-Ahead Singapore – is seen at a junction.

A person wearing a motorcycle helmet is kneeling on the ground beside the bus. Another person, dressed in a red-and-yellow uniformed top, is standing. Both are seen crouching over someone lying on the ground, sheltered by two umbrellas.

In response to ST’s queries, a Go-Ahead Singapore spokesperson said the bus driver involved in the accident has been removed from duty while investigations are ongoing.

“We have been actively trying to contact the pedestrian’s family to offer our support and assistance, and we appeal for them to get in touch with us,” the spokesperson said.
