SINGAPORE – Some taxi rides in the city will cost more during the Formula One race period in October.

Customers will have to pay an $8 location surcharge for rides starting from 19 designated taxi points and hotel driveways in the vicinity of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix.

The surcharge will be applied to rides boarded between 9.30pm and midnight from Oct 3 to 5, according to separate social media posts and webpages of ComfortDelGro, Strides Premier, Trans-cab and Prime Taxi.

The taxi points are Suntec Towers 1 to 5, its convention and exhibition centre, Millenia Walk, Millenia Tower, Income@Raffles in Collyer Quay, Capitol Piazza, Peninsula Excelsior Hotel, MYP Centre and a temporary taxi stand behind The Concourse.

Hotel driveways where the surcharge applies are Marina Bay Sands (MBS) Casino, MBS Towers 1 and 3, Conrad Centennial Singapore, The Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore, Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay, Mandarin Oriental Singapore and The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore.

“This mechanism aims to increase the supply of taxis at underserved areas by incentivising drivers,” ComfortDelGro said in a Facebook post on Sept 26.

Public transport will also be more accessible during the race period.

SMRT and SBS Transit announced earlier in September

that some train and bus routes operated by them will have extended operating hours from Oct 3 to 5.
