A convoy of 66 Porsches raced off from Queenstown yesterday morning, kicking off a series of charity activities including a mini-driving circuit to test drivers' skills and an islandwide treasure hunt.

The 90-minute hunt took them through places such as Goodwood Park Hotel, Emerald Hill and Asia Square, where they had to identify sculptures and landmarks from a list of photos and answer questions related to these structures and their surroundings. The top prize for the day was a pair of Singapore Airlines business-class tickets to a Porsche backstage tour package in the German cities of Stuttgart and Leipzig, a bottle of Macan wine and a trophy.

About $29,500 was raised in sign-up fees, with the executive chairman of the Eurokars Group, motor magnate Karsono Kwee, matching the sum and bringing the total to $60,000.

It cost participants $388 per car with a maximum of two participants, and $188 for every subsequent contestant. The money will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

The event also commemorated Stuttgart Auto's 30th anniversary and the nation's Golden Jubilee.

Stuttgart Auto is the authorised Porsche distributor in Singapore and is part of the Eurokars Group owned by Mr Kwee. He said that the rally was part of the company's "continuous effort to fulfil the tenets of corporate social responsibility, in giving back to the community".

Mr Kwee added: "It is also an opportunity for Porsche owners to get together and enjoy a day of excitement, benevolence and new meetings with fellow Porsche enthusiasts, and our commitment to continuously deliver an excellent ownership experience to all current and future Porsche owners."

University student Bryan Chin, 28, who entered the rally with his father Lawrence Chin, 65, a financial consultant and a Porsche car owner, said: "My dad and I actively participate in such events as it is a fun way to give back to the community while exploring Singapore."
