SINGAPORE - Security guards at Tang Plaza evacuated about 200 people from the mall on Saturday night (June 15) following a fire on the premises.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted to the fire in Orchard at about 8.40pm, adding that the fire involved electrical wires.
In reply to The Straits Times, Tangs said in a statement that the electrical fire was at the first level of the department store.
"Upon (the) first signs of smoke, customers and staff were evacuated immediately, with no injuries. Overhead sprinklers were activated, along with the fire alarm and notifications to the SCDF," said the spokesman.
Sprinklers extinguished the fire before the firemen arrived, the SCDF said.
Tangs added that the SCDF gave the all-clear to re-enter the building at 10.15pm, and the fire protection system was re-activated just after midnight.
The store will open as usual at 11am on Sunday, said its spokesman.
