SINGAPORE – An accident involving six cars, including a taxi, left two of them in flames on the PIE near Paya Lebar on Feb 27.
Responding to queries from The Straits Times, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the incident, which happened after the Paya Lebar Road exit towards Changi at about 10.15pm.
One car caught fire after the crash, resulting in the flames spreading to another car behind it.
All five car drivers aged between 27 and 41 were not injured, and neither was the 74-year-old taxi driver.
Tutor Andrew Goh, was taking his nightly stroll nearby at about 10.20pm when he noticed a bright orange glow from the flyover above him.
The 35-year-old said he soon realised a large fire had broken out and he could hear loud popping sounds coming from the scene of the accident.
After a while, flashing lights that appeared to be from SCDF vehicles could be seen near the fire, said Mr Goh, adding that there was still traffic passing through on the expressway.
Two of the cars were involved in the fire, which was put out using a water jet, said SCDF.
In videos circulating on Telegram, a taxi can be seen getting involved in the collision.
In response to queries, taxi operator ComfortDelGro on Feb 28 said they are aware of the accident involving a taxi from the company.
“There were no passengers on board at the time of the incident, and our cabby was uninjured. We will be assisting the police in their investigations,” a spokesperson said.
Police investigations are ongoing.
