SINGAPORE - A teenager was trapped in a Redmart lorry after an accident with a car at a junction in Ang Mo Kio on Tuesday night (Jan 30).
The accident occurred at the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 and Ang Mo Kio Street 11 at about 10pm, the police told The Straits Times.
The 18-year-old was trapped in the lorry, which had fallen on its side.
The accident drew a crowd which tried to help the driver, Lianhe Wanbao said in a report on Wednesday.
Eyewitness Zhong Xide, a 40-year-old warehouse assistant, told Wanbao that he was at a coffee shop nearby when he heard a loud "bang".
When he turned to look, he saw that the two vehicles had collided.
"Another passer-by and I saw that the driver was stuck and could not get out, so we rushed over to ask if he was hurt," said Mr Zhong. "But the young man did not answer and looked like he was drifting in and out of consciousness."
He said the driver responded to them after a few minutes. It looked like he had sprained his neck, he said.
A photo published in Wanbao showed a crowd of more than 50 people at the scene watching as officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) rescued the man.
SCDF told ST that its officers extricated the man using hydraulic tools and took him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The driver of the car, a 77-year-old man, was also taken to the same hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
