SINGAPORE – A total of 121 summonses were issued to errant drivers of commercial vehicles during a three-day islandwide enforcement blitz from Aug 18 to 20.
In a statement on Aug 28, the police said that a total of 166 commercial vehicles were stopped for checks by the Traffic Police (TP) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) during this period.
The summonses were for traffic offences such as speeding, using mobile devices while driving, failing to keep left, failing to properly secure loads on vehicles, and failing to display a speed limiter label visibly at the top right portion of the front windscreen.
Additionally, 93 LTA-related violations were detected, including seven overloaded vehicles, and 19 excluded vehicles found travelling on expressways without a permit.
Excluded vehicles include mobile cranes and ready-mix concrete trucks.
Seventeen heavy vehicles were found to not have displayed a speed limiter label during the three-day operation. When installed with speed limiters, such vehicles must display a label in the top right corner of the front windscreen when viewed from outside the vehicle.
Heavy vehicles with a maximum laden weight (MLW) exceeding 12,000kg must be fitted with speed limiters, and a failure to do so is an offence, the police said.
Also, lorries with an MLW of between 3,501kg and 12,000kg must have speed limiters installed by the following dates:
Jan 1, 2026: For lorries registered before Jan 1, 2018, and with an MLW of between 5,001kg and 12,000kg.
July 1, 2026: For lorries registered before Jan 1, 2018, with an MLW of between 3,501kg and 5,000kg.
Jan 1, 2027: For lorries registered on or after Jan 1, 2018, with an MLW of between 5,001kg and 12,000kg.
July 1, 2027: For lorries registered on or after Jan 1, 2018, with an MLW of between 3,501kg and 5,000kg.
The TP said in June that out of 2,600 heavy vehicles that are required to install speed limiters by January 2026, only 231 have done so
“With the first deadline of Jan 1, 2026, approaching, TP strongly encourages companies to expedite their installation to prevent costly penalties, avoid installation delays due to limited workshop capacity, and contribute to road safety,” the police said.
