Eleven men have been arrested for suspected involvement in an illegal transaction of marine gas oil.
The Straits Times understands that all the men are Indonesian.
In a statement, police said they received information on Jan 19 this year that an unknown foreign-registered vessel was purportedly involved in the illegal transaction of 200 metric tons of marine gas oil, with an estimated market value of $97,000.
Police Coast Guard officers traced the foreign-registered vessel and found it off Bedok Jetty yesterday.
Nine crew members on that vessel were arrested for purchasing the stolen oil.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two members of a Singapore-registered tanker for misappropriating the oil on board their vessel and selling it to the crew of the foreign-registered tugboat.
The tugboat was seized for investigations.
The 11 men will be charged in court with criminal breach of trust as a servant, said the statement.
If found guilty, they can be jailed for up to 15 years and fined.
The latest case is not linked to the multimillion-dollar fuel theft from Shell Pulau Bukom.
Several people have been arrested and charged in connection with the Shell case.
