People's Power Party wants to contest Chua Chu Kang GRC

The People's Power Party, the newest political party on the block, will contest Chua Chu Kang GRC in the upcoming polls.

Its founder, veteran opposition politican Goh Meng Seng, will likely lead the team. He announced this during a walkabout around Lot 1 shopping mall on Sunday morning.

The area falls under Chua Chu Kang GRC, currently led by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong.

It has been redrawn from a five-MP to a four-MP GRC.

Mr Alex Yam's Yew Tee ward will no longer be part of the constituency in the upcoming polls. It will, instead, join the Woodgrove and Marsiling wards in the new Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.

In the 2011 general election, the People's Action Party defeated the National Solidarity Party(NSP) in Chua Chu Kang GRC, clinching 61.2 per cent of the vote.

Mr Goh is former secretary-general of the NSP.

On Sunday, Mr Goh, 45, was accompanied by Mr Syafarin Sarif, 39, who ran with Mr Goh in Tampines GRC in 2011, and three men in purple, the party colour.

The party has so far kept tight-lipped about its party members and potential slate of candidates. Mr Goh said they would disclose more details in good time.

The PPP is also looking at possibly standing in an SMC, but Mr Goh said he would announce their decision after a meeting of opposition parties on Monday night.
