Lunch with a serving of politics in the CBD

The first lunchtime rally of this election, held at the promenade at UOB Plaza, drew a big crowd yesterday. Many came to listen to Singapore Democratic Party chief Chee Soon Juan and candidate Paul Tambyah. Professor Tambyah said he thought Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam was an outstanding minister, adding that he hoped the DPM would fall out with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong one day and “lead a grand coalition of opposition parties”. This drew a swift response from PAP candidates at rallies last night, who insisted this was not on the cards.
