SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong hit the campaign trail early on Thursday morning, giving out fliers, greeting commuters and posing for photos with them.
A line of people waiting to take photos with him soon formed outside the station entrance during the morning rush hour.
At one point, SMRT station staff asked Public Transport Security Command officers to help manage the crowd that had built up.
PM Lee, who leads the six-member team for Ang Mo Kio GRC, was with his wife Ho Ching. He later moved to the bus interchange within Ang Mo Kio Hub to meet other residents.
Meanwhile, the Workers' Party team contesting Nee Soon GRC started their walkabout at the Mayflower Market and Food Centre at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.
One resident told WP candidate Kenneth Foo, 38: "Speak more Mandarin and dialects please, the old people don't understand English."
Meanwhile, housewife Julia Lim and her friends were amused by WP new face Gurmit Singh's name. Mr Singh,55, is a lawyer.
"You have the same name as the actor! But you look so different," she said.
