Iran and the US are forcing the world to confront the costs of a maritime blockade, centred on the Strait of Hormuz. While markets have lurched up and down in response to headlines from the Middle East in recent weeks, the military tactic is old news to China, which has been practising for a blockade of Taiwan since 2022.
