Just because liberalism is mild in content doesn’t mean it has to be mild in style, says the writer.

“Sheesh.” “Christ.” “Oof!” and “Mate.” That is a non-exhaustive list of things I mutter as I read Mark Carney speeches. “The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country,” the Canadian Premier said at one point. (Not “Donald Trump”, notice, but “the Americans”.) His opponent would “kneel before” the US President – Mr Carney must know how loaded an image that is – and “let the world burn”.
When rumours suggested that the former central banker would dump US bonds as a pressure tactic, denial wasn’t swift.
