As the United States and Singapore mark the

20th anniversary of the highly successful US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA) this year,

it is worth considering the diverging trade policies of the two countries.

Singapore, like most of its neighbours, views trade as an urgent national imperative and has placed itself at the centre of an expanding web of trade agreements with partners in Asia and globally.
