TSMC’s overseas expansion strengthens Taiwan’s silicon shield

TSMC will soon build a plant in Germany, its first foray into Europe.

By end-2024, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), will begin

production of its prized chips at its first Japanese fabrication plant.

In 2025, the company will

fire up a new foundry in Arizona,

where it will produce sophisticated 4-nanometre (nm) chips. Its second and third fabs there, slated for operation in 2028, will churn out even more advanced chips.
