Singapore on the Krishna? Tempting, but no reason to rush on Amaravati

Controversial Andhra Pradesh project is being revived. As before, a welter of political factors comes with it

Without question, one of the misjudgments Singapore made on the India account in the past quarter century was for Changi Airport Management and Partners (Champs) to shy away from bidding for the modern airport for New Delhi that the Manmohan Singh government completed just before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The Indian government had been keen on Singapore participation in the national capital airport project and the potential partners were strong ones. They included the Bharti group that is behind India’s No. 2 telecoms provider Airtel, and giant developer DLF. However, Singapore was not sure if the stringent project conditions could be met, and, fearing a loss of reputation if it fell short, decided to pull out.
