Scoot’s smaller jets expand options for Singapore travellers and Changi Airport

Leasing nine 112-seat aircraft is a low-risk experiment for the Singapore Airlines Group, potentially improving Changi Airport’s regional connectivity and giving Singapore travellers new holiday options.

The aircraft order announced by Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) low-cost subsidiary Scoot last Friday may not seem big but is significant on many levels for SIA Group, Changi Airport and passengers flying from or through Singapore.

When the first of nine Embraer E190-E2s is delivered to Scoot in late 2024, it will be the smallest commercial aircraft based at Changi Airport since April 2000.
