The winds of war are yet again sweeping across Europe. The fear is no longer just about the conflict in Ukraine, for European governments and their security agencies are now anticipating far worse: a broader military confrontation with Russia at some point by the end of this decade.
The grave mood of foreboding is driven by the sense that a showdown is very likely and that European countries will struggle to defend themselves.
