The night before the glacier trek, I couldn’t sleep. All day, my girlfriends and I had been excited about our upcoming hike in the Vatnajokull National Park, a vast expanse of mountains, plains, volcanoes and ice caps.

This was June, and five of us from Singapore were on a road trip through the famed ring road of Iceland. Friends since schooling days, we had been taking an annual holiday together since the year we turned 50.
