The war in Ukraine has now passed the 18th-month mark, with devastating consequences for both Russia and Ukraine.

The number of combatant casualties wounded or killed in conflict is estimated to be 500,000, according to US sources. Russian casualties account for about 60 per cent of overall battlefield casualties, but this is spread across a larger mobilisation base of 1.3 million military personnel compared with Ukraine’s 700,000.
