Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg announced last week that the company is

dialling back content moderation on its platforms.

He also urged the Trump administration to oppose the attempts of foreign nations with more restrictive laws to impose legal obligations on American Big Tech.

Facebook, Instagram and Threads will abandon fact-checking operations and most restrictions on offensive speech and adopt the community-based model at X (formerly Twitter), Mr Elon Musk’s rival platform. In a lengthy interview with podcaster Joe Rogan, Mr Zuckerberg claimed that the approach, which relies on users voting to label problematic content as it continues circulating, better protects free speech.
