I’ve been travelling across Europe for much of the last six weeks and am in Ireland as I write this. I was in Paris two weeks before France held its election and in London a week before the country voted to give the Labour Party an overwhelming majority.

The news junkie in me snapped to attention even while on vacation. In between the mandatory wefies at the Eiffel Tower, and after watching Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre in London, I would dip into the news and analyses of elections.
