Researching a recent column on China’s economic ties with India, I reached out to a person in New Delhi who, I knew, would have the contact numbers for the top India executives of China’s SAIC, maker of MG cars.

The person I called answered the phone from Bali; Air Vistara,

a Tata-SIA joint venture,

had just started direct Delhi-Denpasar flights, and he’d taken his wife to the Indonesian island for a short holiday. The two SAIC executives I subsequently called were overseas as well.
