Last August, my sister and I took my tiny niece for a walk in her pram. Just as we were about to begin walking on the pedestrian crossing, a car driving by honked to warn us that the driver wouldn’t be stopping for us. 

Despite it being our right of way, the driver in the air-conditioned car felt it was more important for them to pass, rather than two people in the heat with a baby. So we waited.
