A few days ago, I was in a cab and an ambulance came up behind us. The cab driver immediately made way for the ambulance, but I was disappointed that other vehicles did not, despite the ambulance’s bright lights and loud siren.
I feel that more can be done to remind motorists about this traffic rule. I believe most, if not all, Singaporeans are aware that lives are at stake when emergency services are required.
This is especially so with stroke victims, who need to receive medical attention within a few minutes, or with fires, when ambulances need to arrive on the scene quickly to treat the injured.
We all need to understand the importance of giving way to ambulances and other vehicles responding to emergencies, so that more lives can be saved and people treated quickly.
