With Bedok Reservoir Park also being a stone’s throw away from me, I agree with what Mr Frederick Lim wrote in the Opinion piece “Making peace with land: Man and nature on a Bedok Reservoir walk” (June 5).

Like the writer, I get peace of mind when I walk around the sandy track circling the reservoir. There is just this sense of calm as my senses absorb all that is happening.

The sound of joggers’ shoes scraping the track – it is amusing to observe that everyone goes in the same direction around the track – the group of young adults fishing, and even the earthy smell after heavy rain are all things I have become accustomed to.

Night trips to the park are my favourite, though, as they can be a time to ponder on life, sitting quietly on a bench, while gazing at the dark reflection of the night sky in the water. It may be a little eccentric adopting the pose of Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker, but, for me, it is a time to meditate while surrounded by nature.

Despite what it seems, a lot goes on in Bedok Reservoir Park, and it has gradually become my comfort spot. Going to the park has benefited me greatly, and I hope more teenagers can come and visit it too.
